Our relationships with our fathers are complicated.
For some of us, our father's love is like God's love - too deep, too long, too wide, too strong to measure.
Some of our dads are here; some were never here.
For some of us, God's love fills in the empty spaces our fathers left behind.
All of us are shaped by the relationship or lack of relationship with our fathers.
On this day when we remember what it means to have a father or be a father, we recognize the importance of fathers in our communities.   We pledge as a congregation to love and nurture the fathers among us so that they will manifest the love of God in all that they do.
Opening Prayer

Loving God, we thank you that you have shown us how important it is to follow your example as we grow in faith.  Teach us to be obedient to your will, respecting you as children ought.  Thank you for your mercy despite our disobedience. Strengthen us to stand up against the challenges of this world, honoring your name and trusting your grace.   In Christ Jesus, we pray.  Amen.

Day of Pentecost

Rev. Michael McFarlin, Pastor

Prelude and Bringing in the Light

Welcome and Announcements

Hymn - "Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty"

Greeting
L:

L:

C:
And in the last days it shall come to pass, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh
and your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, your old shall dream dreams, and your young shall see visions.
When the Day of Pentecost had come, they were all gathered together in one place.
And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
Opening Prayer

God of wind, word, and fire, we bless your name this day for sending the light and strength of your Holy Spirit.  We give you thanks for all the gifts, great and small, that you have poured out upon your children. Accept us with our gifts to be living praise and witness to your love throughout all the earth; through Jesus Christ, who lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.  Amen.
