Nancy Lee was recognized as the third Allen-Lee Honors recipient at a presentation at the opening of the worship service on April 2, 2017. Mayor Brian Ferrell read the proclamation from the Town of Lone Oak proclaiming the day as Nancy Lee Day in recognition of her many contributions to good things in Lone Oak and Meriwether County. Rev. Michael McFarlin presented Nancy with an Allen-Lee Honors certificate.
Here is the text of the proclamation:
WHEREAS, Nancy Lee moved to the Lone Oak area several years ago and immediately got involved in the community; and
WHEREAS, Nancy is leaving Meriwether County to be closer to her family; and
WHEREAS, she showed her love for young people by helping with the American Union Relief Society’s Summer Focus program, by working with Backpack Buddies, by tutoring a Unity Elementary School and by volunteering and enlisting others to help with the Meriwether Teen Maze; and
WHEREAS, Nancy has attending public meetings to inform herself about issues and has been a member of Meriwether Adults Serving Kids and a volunteer with Meriwether Family Connection programs, the Loaves and Fishes project and Keep Meriwether Beautiful; and
WHEREAS, her love for Girl Scouting shows in so many ways, including her key role in organizing and leading Troop 925 which meets in Lone Oak; and
WHEREAS, Nancy has taken her membership at Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church seriously – serving with the United Methodist Women, Vacation Bible School, the building committee and outreach projects, as well as being a regular participant in worship; and
WHEREAS, Nancy has shown herself to be a true neighbor, one who will help out with a plate of food or with regular transportation or other needs – showing true care to those blessed to know her;
NOW, therefore I, Brian Ferrell, mayor of the Town of Lone, do proclaim April 2 as Nancy Lee Day in Lone Oak and encourage all citizens to participate in this celebration including the 11 a.m. worship service at Allen-Lee Church and the covered dish fellowship meal to follow.
